Community engagement on the new Waihī Beach Library, Service Centre and Hub is now closed.

We see the new Waihī Beach Library, Service Centre and Hub to be the heart of the community – a place you can go to connect with each other and the services you need. Your feedback is crucial to ensure we design and build a facility that you’ll love and use.

We want to hear from you on two things:

We need a new library facility as the current site is too small to accommodate the needs of the community, with room for just one public computer. Having a place to connect and collaborate is important to community and the current space is very limited and somewhat disconnected from the main village.

We carried out an assessment on seven possible library sites around Waihī Beach village and evaluated them. Our top four library locations are featured below.

The other three locations are also marked on the map. There is a mix of reasons why these sites are not our preferred options. You can read the rationale in the document ‘Waihī Beach Library possible locations’.

Our top four sites

Site 2 - Community Centre Rear Reserve

Open area featuring other community facilities and near to primary school

Site 3 - Wilson Park

Large open site within walking distance of the village retail and business area

Site 5 – Wilson Road Carpark

Central site within the village retail and business area

Site 6 – Wilson Road Broadlands Block

Medium sized site within easy walking distance of the village retail and business area. Adjacent to future commercial land.

The new library and service centre will also include a community hub facility designed to meet your needs. It will be a space designed by the community, for the community.

What features would you use in the new facility?

  • An events space?
  • Shared office and business hub?
  • Day care centre?
