Design option one - Pros and Cons

    A two-way cycleway on the inside of the proposed Cameron Road and Boucher Ave loop.

    Pros 

    Cameron Rd

    • Parking retained on one side of Cameron Road where width allows. 
    • Provides direct connectivity to parks and schools. 
    • Provides better cross-connection between Cameron Road and Boucher Ave routes (and potential future cross connections – Queen St, Tui St & Hookey Drive). 
    • Provides separation between pedestrians and cyclists. 
    • Provides separation between cyclists and traffic lane. 
    • Avoids crossing the entry and exits for the one-way drop off areas for Te Puke Primary and Intermediate schools. 

    Boucher Ave

    • Parking is retained on the east side of Boucher Ave outside of Fairhaven School.
    • Provides better cross-connection between Cameron Road and Boucher Ave routes (and potential future cross connections – Queen St, Tui St & Hookey Drive).
    • Provides separation between pedestrians and cyclists.
    • Provides separation between cyclists and traffic lane.
    • Avoids crossing the entry and exits for the one-way drop off area at Fairhaven School.
    • Provides better for a future link connection along Queen St.

     

    Cons

    Cameron Rd

    • Parking relocated from the eastern side to the western side, making it further from Te Puke High School and Te Puke Domain. 
    • No on-street parking from Tui Street to Boucher Ave. 
    • An increased risk of crashes involving two-way cycle riders. 
    • Two-way cycling across intersections. 
    • Crossing required to access Te Puke Primary and Intermediate schools. 

    Boucher Ave

    • On-street parking removed from full length of Boucher Ave except outside Fairhaven School.
    • An increased risk of crashes involving two-way cycle riders. 
    • Crossing required to access Fairhaven School
    • Crosses the Te Puke Fire Station entrance/exit.
    • On-street parking loss on the western side. 
    • Less available space on the western side of Queen St and Jellicoe St roundabouts.
    • Distance to existing crossing west of Jellicoe St roundabout crosses PGG Wrightson entrance/exit.

    • Contraflow across intersections.

    Boucher Ave

    • No on-street parking from Tui St to Boucher Ave.
    • Crosses more side streets on the western side of Cameron Rd.
