Consultation has concluded. We're going through all the feedback and will be in touch with next steps.

LATEST UPDATE:

  • Council's Waste Management and Minimisation Plan has been adopted. Find out more.

Our waste vision is to reduce the amount going to landfill.

Our ‘Waste Minimisation and Management Plan’ determines how we manage waste, and our efforts to minimise the amount going to landfill.

In the past year we have done a review of the plan and asked for your feedback on what else was missing.

At a District wide level you told us:

  • Need for kerbside recycling
  • Interest in worm farming
  • Need to address recycling of construction and demolition materials
  • Need for a more consistent process for kerbside recycling and rubbish collections as it's inefficient to see so many different rubbish trucks on the same route
  • Concern about fly tipping (i.e. illegal dumping).

We asked you about what kind of facility you might like to have to replace your existing greenwaste facility in Omokoroa, which has to be relocated to a new site in the next 18 months. You told us:

  • 74% support for a combined greenwaste, recycling and transfer station
  • 25% support for a combined greenwaste and recycling centre
  • Less than 1% support for greenwaste only.

We have considered this feedback and we now have a new draft plan out for engagement. You can find this draft plan in key documents as well as the statement of proposal, waste audit reports and frequently asked questions documents.

Some of the topics Council wants your feedback and thoughts on include:

  • Investigation of options for Council-led kerbside recycling and rubbish collection across our District
  • Investigation of options for the replacement of Omokoroa’s greenwaste facility

  • Investigation of rural waste initiatives such as a community hub.

We want to know whether we are on the same page with this draft plan. So have your say by filling out the feedback form.

Engagement ends at 4pm Monday 23 October 2017.
