Why is this happening now?

Funding from the Long Term Plan 2021-2031 has been bought forward to enable the creation of a new Waihī Beach Library, Service Centre and Hub in 2024 (instead of 2028).

How much money is being put toward this project? How big will it be?

A total of $3.1 million has been set aside for this major capital project. The facility would be between 420-450m2, allowing 250mfor library and service centre facilities and 125-170m for shared ‘hub’ space.

    Why should I provide feedback?

This library will be an important community asset for decades to come. It’s a great opportunity for the community to tell us what features and spaces they want in the final design, so it can be used now and in the future.

What community input has helped get us to this point?

Feedback received from the Waihī Beach Community Plan 2020, the Long Term Plan 2021-2031 and community trials on the new opening hours held in late 2020 will all be considered in the process.

What happens after I provide feedback?

We will present a summary of the feedback received from the community to Council’s Performance and Monitoring Committee on 23 November 2021 before sharing it with the community.

How do I have my say?

Council will be asking for your feedback in a number of different ways.
