The Next 10 Years

Consultation has concluded

We are currently reviewing our 10-year plan of projects and activities, known as a Long Term Plan or LTP.  This outlines the major projects the community would like Council to do over the next 10 years, and how we will pay for each project.

We’ve started to think about the things that we want to achieve for our district, and have come up with what we think are some of the key issues and priorities that we will need to consider as we start planning.

We’d like to know whether we are on the right track.

We think it’s important that the Western Bay District has growing businesses, plenty of good jobs, and affordable housing.  We want to focus not only on the present, but also to ensure our district is sustainable for our children's future.

    • Do you agree that this is important for Council to focus on?

    • What part do you think Council should play in creating a vibrant economy?

    • What do you think Council could do to promote economic development?

Our population is growing quickly, with more and more people in the over 65 age group.  We need to think about how this will shape what we need to provide the community in years to come.  For example, we might need to look at making sure public buildings are accessible for older people, or how the larger population might impact on our environment.

    • Do you agree that this is important for Council to focus on?

We know that our community needs high quality wastewater and stormwater systems, roads, water supply.  It is also important to provide places to socialise and gather like libraries, parks and community halls.  We are currently considering our role in providing museum facilities.

    • Do you agree that this is important for Council to focus on?

    • Which of the facilities and services that Council provides do you think are most important?

We know that we need to do our best to keep costs to ratepayers affordable.  This can be a balancing act – on one hand we need to keep rates increases low, but on the other we need to have enough income to provide things like roads, water systems, and libraries.

    • Do you agree that this is important for Council to focus on?

    • Would you be prepared to accept a reduction in Council services if it means lower rates?

On our recent ‘Portraits of Our Place’ road trip around the district a lot of people told us that looking after the environment is important, both now and for future generations.  Council has an important role in maintaining our environment by ensuring that resources are used efficiently and that waste is disposed of in an environmentally sustainable manner.

    • Do you agree that this is important for Council to focus on?

    • What else do you think Council could do to support a healthy environment?

This is your chance to tell us what else you see as important for Council to focus on in the LTP.

    • What other issues and priorities are important to think about while we create our LTP?

    • What could we do to make a difference to your organisation, sector or community group?
