Omokoroa Domain Playground - Draft Concept Design Plan

Engagement on the draft concept design plan has concluded. 

The next steps are:

- Go through all feedback received.

- Produce a final design plan.

- Council decision/ratification on the final design.

Council will communicate the final decision in the coming months on our website and through local Omokoroa news channels.

Omokoroa Domain Playground Concept Plan Adopted 8 September 2020:

  • Check out Council's website (media release and adopted plan).
  • Construction of the playground is expected to start in March 2021 and be completed by June 2021.
  • The upgrade cost of $1.04 million is funded through a mixture of existing asset renewal funding and capital works funding.

Western Bay of Plenty District Council and Pirirakau hapū would like to thank the principals, teachers and students from the following schools with their help on the development of the draft concept design plan:

  • Omokoroa Point School, 37 Hamurana Road
  • Pahoia School, 29 Esdaile Road
  • Whakamarama School, 476 Whakamarama Road
  • Te Puna School, Te Puna Road
  • Omokoroa No. 1 School, 11 Emeny Road.

Background:

Following the student design showcase event earlier this year, a draft concept design plan for the Omokoroa Domain Playground has been developed.

It is intended that the playground will complement the existing domain and esplanade areas and be a fun place for kids of all ages to play.

Proposed key features include:

  • Pendulum basket swing

  • Sand play equipment

  • Tension-net climbing structure

  • Mouse wheel

  • Musical equipment

  • Shade structures over selected play areas.
