Update 28 June 2019:
- Western Bay adopts new gambling policy. Read more.
- No new gambling venues or gambling machines will be allowed in the Western Bay of Plenty under a new policy.
- Western Bay of Plenty District Council this week unanimously approved changes to the Class 4 Gambling Venues Policy and TAB Venues Policy. The changes aim to minimise the social harm caused by gambling, particularly in more at risk communities and reflect the community's views.

KEY CHANGES PROPOSED IN DRAFT BYLAW:
- Introduce a sinking lid, with no new gaming machines or venues allowed in the District, meaning there can be no new venues or machines, and the number of machines may reduce over time.
- Relocating a gaming machine venue is not allowed.
- Clubs that merge may no longer host gaming machines.
- No stand-alone TAB venues allowed in the District.
