Consultation has concluded

We’re looking to develop a neighbourhood reserve and recreational opportunities in the Arawa Road community. This is your chance to tell us what you think of the draft concept plan.

What’s this all about?

Through the Te Puke-Maketu Reserve Management Plan pre-engagement in 2021, we received feedback from residents of Arawa Road, Pongakawa (off State Highway 2) asking for recreation opportunities in their community.

In February 2022 we surveyed residents of Arawa Road and Penelope Place to better understand the community’s aspirations around recreation and open space in their neighbourhood. We received overwhelming support for new recreational space, so proceeded with developing a concept plan which incorporated feedback we received.

About the concept plan

The draft concept plan includes a new neighbourhood reserve, to be developed at the end of the formed section on Arawa Road. The plan includes exciting features such as:

  • A ‘rural-inspired’ playground
  • Pump track
  • Community garden
  • Signage, seating, shade and planting improvements
  • Future walking and cycling trail connections around the area and linking to Pukehina Beach

The project is likely to be implemented in a staged approach, beginning with the neighbourhood reserve, and walking and cycling connections to be developed at a later date.

Costs for the project will be considered in future budget processes and are currently estimated up to $54,000 for the neighbourhood reserve and costs for the walking and cycling trails will be determined once we have a better idea of things like the type of surface required and where these linkages could go.

Have your say

What do you think of the draft concept plan?
