Maramatanga Park Reserve Concept Plan

Engagement has ended. We’re now collating all the feedback. If you have requested you wished to attend a have your say event to speak to our elected members about your views on the concept plan, we’ll be in touch with details on the date, time and location. When the concept plan is adopted, this site will be updated to ensure you know what the outcome is.

Following last year's review of the Kaimai Ward Reserves Management Plan, approval was given to develop the Maramatanga Park Reserve Concept Plan, which is now out for feedback. Reserve management plans set the rules for how people use public spaces in our communities while reserve concept plans identify things that need to be updated and options for additional facilities to be built on site.


Maramatanga Park - premier park for Te Puna and the surrounding area:

Maramatanga Park, located on the corner of Te Puna and Tangitu roads is the premier park for Te Puna and the surrounding area. It is the home of several sporting organisations, Te Puna Rugby Club, Te Puna Twilight Cricket, Te Puna Tennis including the Te Puna Scouts and Te Puna Lions. We are mindful that many groups and individuals also use the Park formally and informally so it is important that everyone has the opportunity to have their say on the draft reserve concept plan.

The existing Reserve Concept Plan carried out in 2002 is due for a much-needed overhaul and feedback will make sure our future planning for the park acknowledges your aspirations.


Some of the topics Council wants your feedback and thoughts on include:

  • The range and number of sports fields available
  • Increased parking
  • Installing an artificial cricket wicket
  • The condition and use of the netball court
  • More tennis courts
  • A potential community building
  • New playgrounds and a basketball half court
  • Potential skate park
  • Toilet facilities.


Have your say about the reserve concept plan for Maramatanga Park if you are a person who:

  • Uses and plays sport on these reserves,
  • Is interested in sustainable development and the natural environment,
  • Wants more spent to provide playgrounds, fields, new or better toilets or other facilities,
  • Wants changes to how people use these reserves, or
  • Is just interested in reserve concept plans in general.


Open day:

We're holding an “Open Day” where staff will be able to provide information and explanations about the draft reserve concept plans for both Ruahihi Power Station Reserve and Maramatanga Park.

Date - Saturday 2 September

Time - Drop in anytime between 10am to 2pm.

Venue - Community Centre (next to the tennis courts) at Maramatanga Park, Tangitu Road, Te Puna.
