It's About Long Term Plan 2018 to 2028!
Engagement has concluded for Phase 2 of the Long Term Plan 2018/2028. We're busy looking at the feedback and will be in touch next year during the statutory phase for the final phase of engagement. Thank you for taking part!
What is the Long Term Plan?
Council is required to prepare a Long Term Plan (LTP), the key document Council uses to set strategy and direction for the next 10 years. To do this, Council needs to understand community priorities to frame its approach, and to ensure that the adopted plan will deliver on what is important for the District.
Council is preparing the LTP for 2018 to 2028. This involves discussing the current and future direction of Council. It sets out the projects or investments that need to be made, in line with Council's legal obligations, infrastructure needs and community priorities.
This time around, the LTP occurs in three community engagement stages – the first sets the agenda (we’ve done this part – details are below), the second checks back in using a set of themes, and the third tests the specific proposals for the plan.
We’re currently in phase two.
Are we on the same page?
Earlier this year we asked what was important to you and what Council should be prioritising. You gave us your views and here's a collection of what you told us (check out the feedback reports in the section called Your Feedback):
From the feedback you gave us, four key themes have emerged:
1. Pace of change - our District is changing, the population is increasing and the economy is growing. This brings opportunities and challenges. You've told us that change needs to happen in a smart, sustainable, inclusive manner aligned with the needs of tomorrow's community - not just today's.
2. Building communities - we like living in our District. We want to build our community connections and sense of place. You've told us that a sense of identity and being connected is key to a vibrant thriving community as well as having the right tools to enhance that sense of connectedness.
3. Protecting our environment and our resources - we want to manage our resources and reduce waste to protect the environment we live in and enjoy. You've told us we need to do more in this space and have options on how we recycle and reuse our waste.
4. Getting around - our economy is dependent on its transportation network, as most of our economic growth is in the primary sector. You've told us that you are keen to see more cycleway and walkway development, upgrades to rural roads remain a priority and road safety is a concern.
